Psychotherapy Referrals

In selecting a therapist, take time on the phone and in person to discuss your needs and concerns to ensure that the therapist has the necessary training and experience to support your healing journey. Consider meeting with two or three therapists to assess who you feel most comfortable with and who you trust to support your healing.

My approach to the treatment of trauma is dedicated to helping you create safety and stability, develop internal and external resources, transform your relationship to past trauma, promote mind-body-emotion regulation and integration, and create the conditions for optimal personal and relational health and well-being.

In addition to being a psychotherapist for 20 years and teaching meditation and yoga for 25 years, I have completed Advanced Training in the Treatment of Trauma through the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, a comprehensive psychotherapy model designed to treat the effects of acute trauma and complex traumatic stress disorder as well as the related attachment, relational, and developmental traumas. I received EMDR certification through the EMDR Institute, and have also trained in other mind-body approaches of Trauma First Aide that has been used by first responders for survivors of natural disasters, and Emotional Freedom Technique(EFT), an “emotional version of acupuncture." I have participated in training for the treatment of PTSD for combat veterans and military families, and am a volunteer psychotherapist for The Coming Home Project, a non-profit organization committed to helping transform the wounds of war for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, their families, and their service providers. I am on the therapist referral list for Marin County 's Victim-Witness Program for survivors of violent crime.

I offer individual therapy and Transformation Groups: Awareness & Skills for Transforming Trauma , ongoing 11-week groups that focus on learning core skills that allow you to safely enter your internal world; begin to transform your body and mind into safe places for rest, reflection, and well being; and, take steps toward the life you want to live. This group may be a valuable adjunct to individual therapy or a first step toward exploring your relationship with your past.

Sessions and groups are offered in my San Rafael office, and are available days, evenings, and weekends by appointment. Call Marilynne at (415) 492-1042 to discuss your interests and questions.

Therapist Referral Lists:

Therapist referral lists are available for experienced therapists who have completed training with the following programs that specialize in the treatment of trauma:

The Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy focuses not just on the devastating effects of trauma-induced alterations on mind, but also on body and brain. Drawing upon very recent advances in trauma, neurobiology, developmental, and psychodynamic psychotherapy, the imprints of trauma found in bodily-based behaviors, affects, and cognitions are addressed in this therapeutic approach.
